Salt Therapy: Relaxation Hour

IMG_1520

Immediately as I stepped into the salt room, I was calmed by the low lighting and cream walls. It was just bright enough to get you in the mood to really relax your body and mind. Along with the cool and calm ambience of the decor soft instrumentals filled the room… that is when I decided to take my first deep breath…

And it hits me right away.. the air seems thicker in the room and I let out coughs because I truly was not ready for what I experienced. Slowing my breathing a little, I eventually got accustomed to the air. Much in the same, I opened my mouth at one point, and could truly taste salt on my tongue, even by licking my lips… but I took my seat among the 6 chairs there and began inhaling deeply. In silence as I did not want to disturb those around me trying to get the most of their experience…plus the receptionist said there was to be no talking, I sat in my chair and looking around.

Side Note:  I should mention, you cannot bring phones, laptops, Ipad/tablets inside (unless you want them damaged)…

OH SUGAR SNAPS… WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO FOR ALMOST AN HOUR WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY…….. #TheStruggleIsReal

You gotta go OLD SCHOOL….if you have good book (yes they still make them, you know the things where you actually have to turn the pages, not swipe left/right… yep those) or something to write (for work, school, or maybe just get your creative juices flowing and write a poem… To Be… Or NAHH!!?? That is the question)…

Anyways, I resorted to their options of Times Magazine, flipping through mostly looking at pictures, the curious person in me decided to figure out if all this was actually salt. I kinda ran my finger on the walls and other surfaces and licked it… YEP definitely salt!! (Hence Salt Therapy Right.. but I wanted to make sure)

Soon after a few pages of flipping through, I was so relaxed and fell asleep. Honestly, it was probably a short nap but it felt like one of the longest and fulfilling naps I have had in a long time… I mean nothing compared to when I had my Naked Turkish Bath... but still very much deep and empty mind kind of sleep.

Then, the receptionist comes in to let you know time is up, and you head on out….. First thing I recognized was the difference in the air… but it was a beautiful experience.

I got this deal on my fave coupon site GROUPON of course!! (I mean who pays full price anymore!) It was $25 for 2 sessions (which means I will be going again…. very soon)… even better GROUPON had a 20% off sale, so I actually got it for like 21 bucks. #WINNING

So here is some information about Salt Therapy and if you should try it!

Salt Therapy also called HaloTherapy being used all over the world. It is basically breathing in salt particles which will go deep into your lungs and sinuses to create hypo-bacterial and allergen-free air environment (least that is what the brochure said).

Basically though it is good for

  1. Respiratory problems/Infections
  2. Asthma
  3. Bronchitis
  4. Smoker’s cough
  5. Colds & Influenza
  6. Pneumonia
  7. Snoring

Something else they mentioned, but not in the brochure is that it is good for skin conditions as well like Psoriasis/Eczema.

Tips:

  1. Bring a change of clothes or go in shorts. Some of the benefits are for the skin so it is best to have areas exposed. I pulled my dress up to expose my legs (good thing I hand on spandex!)
  2. Go with friends, and fill the room. If you want to chat or just enjoy the experience with no restrictions
  3. Get there on time! (I was a little late) So I missed a few minutes of my time, but they are on a set schedule.. so you don’t get to stay longer.

At the end of the day, I give it 2 THUMBS UP!! I am excited for my second therapy session. If anything changes from this experience to the next, I will up date you.. but I strongly recommend you just experience it on your own.

Have you done Salt Therapy before? If so share your experiences below? Or share other types of therapies you have tried.
