How to Make an Airline’s Mistake Your Next BIG TRIP! (ERROR FARES)

Picture
I woke up Christmas morning rather early, to start helping my mom with breakfast and begin preparations for our dinner… So, that was about 5 am. I picked up my phone and there it was…. FLIGHTS FROM CHICAGO/NEW YORK TO ABU DHABI for under $300 round tripWHATTTTT???? I immediately read the post by The Points Guy, and EUREKA… these flight prices were no joke from Etihad Airlines!!!!What perfect timing. I was already planning a trip into that region with my friend… so, I immediately called my Traveling/Adrenaline Junkie Bestie… and started searching for our trip to India. After exploring a few options of where to fly into and where to fly out of. I snagged a $256.40 ticket (I also bought insurance so about $300) to fly from Chicago to Mumbai, India (1 stop in Abu Dhabi for an hour or so) then back home from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to Chicago (non stop). I did this because I wanted to be able to see India, but also have a chance to ride the World’s Fastest Rollercoaster at Ferrari World, Camel Ride in the Desert, See Masder City (run only off solar power and other renewable energy) and just to see the luxury of the United Arab Emirates.

After this serious YOLO moment I had to share how YOU can be benefit off these mistaken flight prices, and end up in paradise for the same price as flying from Miami to New York. After all I did call you out a few weeks ago telling you that “You are never too poor to travel!” (Check out that blog if you haven’t already.)

So are you ready to get on that next deal…HERE IS HOW!!

Let’s talk Phone Apps!! (Feedly and MileFeeds)
I downloaded 2 new Apps on my phone, Feedly and Milefeeds!! (I may have to update my 8 apps for the organized traveler’s soul… mmm) In Feedly, you can search for people that you already know, or just add the feeds you like directly from their RSS link… such as my Blog! *hint hint*

I personally like Milefeeds a bit more, as they already have well known blogs preloaded that you just have to check off. It is also cool that it also includes other deals such as computer deals etc. I am religiously checking these two apps….. No joke, I check it when I wake up right after my daily devotion, and before bed…. I am not playing!!

Who to Follow?
I am just starting out on this aspect Error Fare Hunting, but so far, I have loved these sites:

  1. The Points Guy (also check out the Facebook Page)
  2. Secret Flying (also check out the Facebook Page)
  3. Frugal Travel Guy (also check out the Facebook Page)

They offer great deals and advice on how to maximize your miles and points!!!

What to Know!
So, after booking my deal on Christmas morning, I had all sorts of questions that I really didn’t know who to ask.. turns out these questions are already answered. So let me give you the real deal.

  1. NEVER EVER EVER call the airline to find out if the tickets are real. By doing this you tip the off to make the changes faster. Allow for others to snag the deal you just got. Eventually, you will find out if the airline will accept the fare mistake or deny us the tickets. After all, that will be thousands of people pissed off and calling them… but it can happen where they deny the ticket.
  2. BOOK NOW!!!! ASK QUESTIONS LATER!!!! Remember, there is a free 24 hour cancellation period. So if you book a ticket and it no longer works for your schedule after you go to your calendar, just cancel it for your money back. No harm done. The money will be back on your card soon.
  3. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING ELSE (hotel, trains, activity) until you get confirmation!! Wait for the confirmation ticket in your email. This is the key part of booking an ERROR FARE!! It is not until the airline sends that confirmation that you will be sure you are headed on your flight!!! But be patient it could take hours or a day or so… sometimes, they have to workout what they plan to do with the tickets.
  4. Follow up on the blogs I mentioned or others you have found! That way you know what the final verdict it. Even after that confirmation ticket, there’s nothing like seeing that others have the same information you have. Blogs will post follow ups such as The Points Guy. Heck even Forbes wrote about my Etihad Error Fare! (links are information about my Etihad deal I snatched up on Christmas Day!)
  5. When all these things fall into place: ENJOY YOUR TRIP TO WHERE EVER YOU ARE GOING… cause you snatched that DEAL!! #WINNING!

I am super excited for my trip to India and United Arab Emirates!!! I can’t wait to tell you all about it, but I will also be sure to post any new deals I find while following these bloggers and sites!!! So go into the new year ready for AMAZING DEALS!!

And just like that… I made an Airline’s Mistake my Next BIG TRIP and you can too!!!! #YayMe #YayYou #YayUS

Would you wake up and snag an Error Fare no questions asked??? Why or Why not???
